(애틀랜타=연합뉴스) 김재현 특파원 = 하버드대가 사우디아라비아에 있는 `세계대학랭킹센터'의 연례 100대 대학 평가에서 1위를 차지했다.

9일(현지시간) 휴스턴 크로니클 등 미국 언론에 따르면 하버드대는 전체 8개 평가 항목 중 자국내 평가, 교수 수준, 발행물, 영향력, 논문인용 등 5개 항목에서 최고 점수를 받으며 세계 최고 대학으로 선정됐다.

하버드대에 이어 미국의 매사추세츠공대(MIT)와 스탠퍼드대가 2, 3위를 차지했다.

톱 10은 미국 8곳, 케임브리지대(4위)와 옥스퍼드대(7위) 등 영국 2곳으로 짜여졌다. 일본은 도쿄대(14위), 교토대(17위)가 20위 안에 들었다.

세계 100대 주요 대학을 국가별로 보면 미국이 58개로 가장 많고, 영국이 7개, 프랑스와 일본이 5개로 그 뒤를 이었다.

한국은 75위에 자리한 서울대가 유일하게 100위 안에 들었다.

A NEW APPROACH TO WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS

World university rankings are lists of higher education institutions ordered using a combination of indicators. Some rankings, such as ARWU1, rely mainly on research indicators. Other rankings, such as QS2 and the Time Higher Education3 rankings, place a great deal of emphasis on opinion based surveys. Up to now, there has been no ranking measuring the quality of the learning environment as well as research without relying on surveys and university data submissions. Here it is shown that a ranking measuring the quality of education and training of students as well as the prestige of the faculty and the quality of their research could be constructed based solely on verifiable data. It is found that, in addition to research performance, the quality of an institution's alumni significantly affects its ranking. The indicators used to quantify these aspects are chosen to be robust against manipulation. The results of this study will be of interest to students, university administrators, policy makers, and funding agencies from around the world. In this study, degree-granting institutions of higher education are ranked according to seven indicators, which are explained in detail below.

3) Quality of Research: II] Highly-Influential Research (세계적으로 학문적 영향을 미친 논문 수)
